SACRAMENTO, CA - U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina today issued the following statement supporting the bipartisan legislation proposed in the U.S. Senate requiring that September 11 suspects be tried before a military commission instead of in civilian court:
“Government’s highest priority is to protect its citizens. Trying suspected terrorists in civilian court in the United States jeopardizes the safety and security of our fellow Americans. Terrorists have not earned the right to be afforded the constitutional protections guaranteed to citizens of the United States. Foreign terrorists who are accused of crimes against our country must be held responsible for their actions in an appropriate venue: trial by military commission. I urge our representatives in Washington – including Barbara Boxer – to put the security of our nation first by quickly passing this important bill.”
Fiorina has consistently urged the federal government to respect the wishes of the American people by keeping trials of suspected terrorists out of the United States.
