SACRAMENTO, CA – Carly for California Deputy Campaign Manager Julie Soderlund today issued the following statement regarding the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) Statewide Survey showing that Barbara Boxer’s support and lead have declined significantly since PPIC’s last survey in May:
“This poll is good news, and it confirms what an increasing number of election watchers have recently noted: despite being known by nearly all Californians, despite having been a politician for more than three decades and despite her millions of dollars in stockpiled campaign cash, support for Barbara Boxer is declining, the race is tightening, and Carly Fiorina has a clear opportunity to defeat her this November.
“The movement in this race from being a clear win for Boxer to a ‘toss-up’ is a testament both to Boxer’s failure as a senator and to Carly’s strength as a challenger. The financial commitments made to Carly’s campaign by several organizations in the past week only further underscore the growing recognition that this race is both competitive and winnable, even in deep blue California. And as voters learn more about Boxer’s support for more than $1 trillion in tax increases, job-killing legislation paid for at taxpayers’ expense and a massive expansion in government, we expect Boxer’s support to drop even further.”
This morning, the Washington Post moved California’s Senate race from the “lean Democratic” category to the “toss-up” category. The Rothenberg Political Report and the Cook Political Report previously moved the race to “toss-up.” Earlier this week, the National Republican Senatorial Committee announced it has reserved $1.75 million in television time in the final weeks of the general election campaign.
